Student travel programs are financed by the Student Affairs Board around the United States. The main purpose of these programs is to provide financial support to students who are willing to travel to important educational conferences but lack the financial support. The board finances both solo applicants and applicants who submit group requests.

The programs accept groups of at least 3 students who include members of the student organization being represented. On the other hand, the programs accept individual applicants who are planning to make a scholarly presentation at the educational gathering targeted. For an applicant to qualify, he must have a travel advisor who is willing to make the trip with no pay or compensation. The advisor should be familiar with the program and the purpose of the visit. The board does not in any way fund the advisor who accompanies the applicant in the trip.

An undergraduate student can also make an application and successfully get funds. To do this, he must complete at least 12 units of the school coursework availed. In addition, he must get a cumulative average GPA of 2.5 or more in the coursework done. He should also have a good reputation and have no negative background that might be wanting.

A graduate applicant must complete at least 6 units of coursework in the training institution he is enrolled in. He also must have a good character and must not have any criminal background. In addition, he must be a good performer in class work and must have an average GPA.

For one to qualify, he must submit a student travel programs application form at the desk of the Director of Student Travel. This should be done soon enough to allow the board review the application and decide on whether to fund the individual or not.
