Experiencing the wildlife of Tenerife
Tenerife is one of Spain’s Canary Islands and has very high temperatures for the whole of the year. It is situated not far from Africa and so the variety of wildlife on the island is extremely vast. A number of birds fly south to the island from cooler parts of Europe at certain points throughout the year so people can see everything from parrots and lizards to common pigeons and blackbirds.
For people who want to experience the huge amount of wildlife on the island, there are a number of different ways for them to do so. There are parks which are protective environments for a number of animals but much of the wildlife can be found wherever people travel on the island. The climate and terrain of the island makes it the ideal living place for many birds and reptiles and so tourists often see these species when travelling around towns.
The second most popular tourist attraction on the island is Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz. The main focus of the park is on the many different colourful parrots and other tropical birds but there is much more there too. There are shows throughout the day which up to 600 people can watch and which demonstrates the intelligence and the beauty of the birds which live in the park.
Loro Parque also has many shows involving dolphins, orcas and sea lions which are favourites of the visitors. There are also penguins which are great fun to watch when feeding or swimming around, gorillas and chimpanzees which are amazingly powerful creatures and interesting to observe. Another of the very popular animals are the tigers which are interesting to watch, especially at feeding time when their real life instincts can be clearly seen.
The sea life around Tenerife is amazing and going snorkelling or scuba diving is a great way to get a really good look at it. Snorkelling off of the beaches and rocks lets people get a look at the very common tropical fish but going scuba diving is an entirely different experience and something everyone should try.
